Ruby Prasad is a 13-year-old emerging contemporary aboriginal artist. She is a proud Wiradjuri/Dharug girl.
Ruby lives and goes to school in Campbelltown NSW and has strong family ties to Maitland in the Hunter Valley.
Ruby started painting about 3 years ago as a form of therapy and downtime from her growing basketball commitments and achievements.
Ruby’s dot paintings carry the stories of her families’ deep connections to country., drawing inspiration from her family and elders especially her mum Sandra Prasad.
Ruby’s work reflects traditional hunting, gathering practices and sacred sites as well as the journeys her family and ancestors have taken across the land.
Ruby tells unique aboriginal stories through her art.
So far Ruby has been proud to achieve a few highlights through her art which include:
- Creating artwork “journey to Naarm” to fundraiser for her basketball team to travel to Melbourne for Nationals, sold at auction.
- Finalist in Campbelltown fishers ghost art competition with “Miyagan”, sold at exhibition
- Winner of the state art competition with ACYPNSW with “Yandhai Dreaming”
- Finalist in the Mosman art gallery youth art prize with “Yarauna” which sold at exhibition
- Winner of the poster competition in Campbelltown’s children’s multicultural festival with “Yellomundi”.
Ruby loves to paint and has also created numerous personal art works for family and friends and accepts commissions from the community.
