Artwork by Brett Smith
Wiradjuri Nation
Brett is a Wiradjuri man who has developed skills that have been passed down from one Aboriginal generation to the next by means of his great grandfather, grandfather and his father, renowned Aboriginal artist Ross Smith.
Brett spent many years from his early youth working alongside his father Ross, collecting and manufacturing didgeridoos using traditional methods.
As his artistic skills developed Brett started working with schools during NAIDOC and creating school murals depicting stories in local areas. Brett also began exhibiting his work at major galleries such as the Gosford Regional Gallery, local and regional markets, as well as participating in the NSW Parliament House awards.
Brett is also well known for his charity work, creating works that were auctioned off in order to raise funds for a number of charitable organisations.
